Junk Jam offers a chance to turn your performance skills and aspirations into a noisy street presentation featuring drummers, singers, melody instrumentalists, with all instruments and costumes 100% recycled!
The JUNK JAM percussion ensemble
A 40-piece percussion orchestra taking influences form Afro-Brazilian, West African and South Asian percussion disciplines with an arsenal of instruments made from entirely recycled materials. We will use traditional rhythms and instrumental fabrication techniques from the countries represented, as well as other junk items to develop new, functional and high quality instruments that will be carefully arranged together to create a new and exciting percussion arrangements.
The JUNK JAM wind ensemble
A 10-15 piece wind or ‘brass’ ensemble performing arrangements using instruments made from entirely recycled materials. We will research, design and create several instruments based on traditional brass and woodwind instruments and create a new and exciting ensemble.
The JUNK JAM vocal collective
A 20-strong group of vocalists and story tellers providing the lyrics and narrative to the music, based on the theme. Using traditional melodies and stories drawn from our diverse participants, our team will weave a new arrangement and story to complement and reinforce the melody from the wind / brass instruments.
