goes massive for this short seven week course leading to a huge grand finale performance as part of the Manchester Day Parade through the City Centre on Sunday June 19th.

Delivered in partnership with Band on the Wall, Global Grooves, Community Arts North West, Bloco Novo, Cabasa and Exodus this unique carnival band will pull together various music, dance and song groups from across Greater Manchester to create an exciting final performance piece inspired by Bob Marley’s Exodus with full horn section.

This exciting seven week course for drummers, dancers and brass players will study the traditions and styles of north-eastern Brazilian Bloco’s with a Jamaican Reggae, Hip Hop and Mancunian twist. You will have an opportunity to work with some of Manchester’s very best percussion, dance and brass tutors.

This course is open to all regardless of experience; complete beginner to advanced level. Arrangements will have room for soloists so bring your best chops and licks with you. :0) Special costumes will be developed to pull the whole group together and hit the streets of Manchester in style with a bang.

"Lively Up Yourselves"

For Percussionists: Leon Patel and Zac Sargent are scheming up some cheeky and flavoursome grooves and breaks for the Bateria that will require a serious respect for all things Reggae. The arrangements draw upon influences from Brazilian and West African percussion, Samba, Reggae, dub and Hip Hop.

"Movement of the People"

For Dancers: In this course Adriana Rosso will take you on a journey of Brazilian dance styles fusing several different traditions in a melting pot of samba, funk, hip-hop, Reggae, folkloric and contemporary Brazilian dance styles.

For Brass Players & Saxes: We want brass and saxophone players to form a huge marching funky horn section as part of the Exodus parade playing riffs, bass lines, calls and solos. All instruments, all sizes, all standards welcome. Rehearsals at Band on the Wall on Wednesday 8th & 15th June from 7.15 and Saturday 18th all day.

Free Taster Event: Weds 4th May at Band on the Wall from 7.15-9.15. Come along and have a go, then subscribe to the full course "when ya see the light". All instruments provided but your welcome to bring along your own. Instruments used:  Surdo, Caixa (Snare), Agogo, Timbau, Repinique and Chocalho.  Dancers come in light loose fitting clothing.

Please note there are a limited amount of places available on this course and it’s guaranteed to be busy so book now to avoid disappointment!

"That until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned; That until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained; And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique and in South Africa in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; Until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and good-will; Until all Africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; Until that day, the African continent will not know peace. We Africans will fight, if necessary, and we know that we shall win, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil." – As sung and performed by Bob Marley - War 1976
